Self lob
A self lob is a pass to yourself off the glass or over the defense, then a finish. It needs forward speed. Standing still and tapping the button does nothing useful. On PC the charts say F. Xbox is LB plus a click of the right stick. PlayStation is L1 plus R3.
The sequence people skip
- Sprint toward the rim so you already have momentum.
- As you near the backboard, press F. Do not brake.
- Catch, then finish with a held shot, Shift plus Space, or a held Space dunk if your build has one.
Two writings of the same button
Some community notes say Shift+F. The move guide says to trust the in-game overlay and the Discord pin if your bind was edited. I put F in the main line because two control charts and the self-lob writeup use F without Shift. I am leaving Shift+F in this paragraph so the second spelling is not erased. If F is dead, check momentum first, then check whether you rebound the key.
Three failures show up over and over in that writeup. No animation means you were stopped or the bind changed. The ball hits the floor when you throw it and then halt. A steal or a block means the paint was full and the lob hung in traffic. None of those are fixed by pressing harder. Clear the lane or throw it earlier.
This move’s yearly search interest is higher than its recent 28-day number, which fits a trick people learn once and then forget the button for. The button has not grown a second official name in anything I could read.
FAQ
What button is the self lob?
F on PC, LB+RS on Xbox, L1+R3 on PlayStation, while you are moving.
Is it Shift+F?
One community spelling says so. The charts say F. Check the overlay if your bind was changed.
Is a self lob the same as a teammate alley-oop?
No. The PC charts list F for a self lob and T plus a teammate number for an alley-oop pass.
